Hands-On: Code Generation with Claude

9:00 AM - 12:30 PM

Level: Beginner to Intermediate

This course will take place on Thursday, November 12th and Friday, November 13th.

Sessions run from 9 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. PT / 12 p.m. - 3:30 p.m. ET and will be recorded.

In today’s data-driven world, the ability to extract meaningful insights from vast amounts of data is crucial for informed decision-making and strategic planning. Claude, Anthropic’s AI assistant, brings a distinctive approach to this work: rather than functioning as a black-box tool, Claude reasons through problems conversationally, shows its work, and invites the analyst to question, redirect, and refine each step along the way.

This hands-on workshop is designed to teach participants not only what Claude can do for data analysis, but how to work with Claude as an analytical collaborator—framing problems clearly, directing its approach, evaluating its output critically, and iterating toward trustworthy conclusions.

Throughout the workshop, attendees will learn how to approach Claude as a conversational data analysis partner—writing clear, well-scoped prompts, using Claude’s built-in Python code execution to run real analysis directly in the chat, and reviewing Claude’s generated code and reasoning rather than accepting results at face value. Participants will gain hands-on experience through interactive exercises and real-world case studies covering exploratory data analysis, predictive modeling, hypothesis testing, and natural language processing.

By the end of this class, participants will be equipped with the prompting skills, technical knowledge, and verification habits needed to harness Claude for data analysis, enabling them to unlock deeper insights, drive innovation, and make more informed, well-vetted decisions in their organizations.

You Will Learn

  • How Claude approaches data analysis as a conversational, reasoning-based partner and how that differs from traditional point-and-click analytics tools
  • How to perform exploratory data analysis using Claude to uncover patterns and trends
  • How to use Claude’s built-in Python code execution and file-creation capabilities to run, visualize, and iterate on analysis directly within the conversation
  • How to develop predictive models leveraging the capabilities of Claude to enhance accuracy and efficiency
  • How to conduct hypothesis testing with the aid of Claude to validate insights and inform business decisions
  • How to integrate natural language processing techniques to analyze unstructured data and derive actionable insights
  • How to critically evaluate and verify Claude’s analysis—including its generated code, statistical assumptions, and conclusions—and apply ethical considerations and best practices when using Claude for data analysis

Geared To

  • Data analysts looking to enhance their analytical capabilities with advanced AI tools
  • Business intelligence professionals seeking to integrate Claude into their existing workflows for more efficient data interpretation
  • Data scientists who want to leverage Claude for advanced exploratory data analysis and predictive modeling
  • IT and data managers responsible for implementing AI tools in data analysis projects
  • Researchers and academics interested in using Claude for hypothesis testing and natural language processing
  • Decision-makers who want to gain deeper insights from data to inform strategic decisions

Pre-requisites

Registrants must be familiar with Python or complete a complimentary online course before the bootcamp.

While Claude writes and runs the Python code during exercises, a working familiarity with Python helps participants read, direct, and sanity-check what Claude produces.

Access to the 3-hour online course “Python Quick Start” will be provided to registrants prior to the event.

Laptop Setup:

Students have a computer with a modern web browser and access to Claude.ai.

Students must have a paid Claude account (Pro plan or higher) to ensure reliable access to code execution and file creation throughout the day.

Claude’s built-in Python code execution and file-creation feature, enabled in account settings, allows Claude to write, run, and visualize analysis directly within the conversation. Therefore, a separate local Python or Jupyter Notebook installation is not required for most exercises. Students who would like to also practice a local Jupyter Notebook workflow alongside Claude are welcome to install Python and Jupyter Notebook beforehand, but this is optional.

Note on Corporate Laptops:

This course requires installation of software, access to web services APIs, and the ability to download data files, library files, and code.

If your corporate laptop blocks these activities, we recommend contacting your corporate IT department early. Alternatively, bring and use a personal device instead.

Setup:

Laptop preparation is required BEFORE the workshop. Instructions will be available on the seminar site prior to the first session.

There is no time allotted in class for laptop preparation.
