In this session, Jeff Healey from Vertica discusses how the Vertica Analytics platform as well as complementary technologies like Spark and Kafka can reduce costs, increase performance, and make your organization ready to provide big data analytical insight to more users. In this presentation, Jeff will compare and contrast the best use case and cost models of common big data analytics technologies as you plan to handle more data and boost your ability to deliver the right kind of analytics to a greater number of users.

Prior to Axeda, Jeff held product marketing, customer success, and lead editorial roles at MathWorks, Macromedia (now Adobe), Sybase (now SAP), and The Boston Globe.

Profits of the Internet: Data Analytics in Online Advertising

Presentation by Daniel Gale, Director of Engineering, Simpli.fi

The last few years have seen a massive shift from traditional domain-based online advertising to programmatic advertising, where ad units are auctioned off millions of times per second as people browse the internet. Today, over 85% of all ads served online are served programmatically across all devices. This shift has also sparked a dramatic increase in the amount of data collected, bought, and sold.

This session will provide insights on how Simpli.fi is handling the acceleration of data, with over 250 billion data events daily across over 500 million devices. Given that most of this data has little value to advertisers, one of the key challenges is one of the fundamental issues most data scientists are facing today: "How can I find the data that is actually valuable?” The Simpli.fi Reporting and Analytics tools are built around Vertica, which allow fast queries against event-level data for ad-hoc analytics around user data and ad performance. The session will focus on examples where we are attempting to solve the issues around data reduction and applying massive data sets to real-time processing and analytics, from building real-time performance models to analyzing GPS data events.
