New TDWI Research Report Helps Enterprises Meet Today’s Data Demands with Modern Data Integration

Report details current enterprise behavior and recommends best practices that enhance data integration to support business innovation.

SEATTLE, WA, November 30, 2021—TDWI Research has released its newest TDWI Best Practices Report: Modernizing Data and Information Integration for Business Innovation. This original, survey-based report focuses on strategies for solving data and information integration challenges.

The author of the report, David Stodder, is senior director of TDWI Research for business intelligence. He explains that complete views of relevant data are essential for today’s data-driven business decisions, and enterprises need modernized data integration to provide flexible, scalable, fast data access.

According to the report, “Organizations want to increase user satisfaction, support flexibility and innovation, and enable people to collaborate effectively to achieve business objectives such as operational efficiency, richer customer engagement, growth, resilience, and risk mitigation.” Successful digital transformation and accurate data governance both rely on effective data integration and faster insights into how diverse data relates to higher-level business entities.

The report discusses multiple integration solutions, including data virtualization, data catalogs, knowledge graphs, master data management, data fabrics, integration-platforms-as-a-service (iPaaS), and unified cloud data management. However, Stodder notes that “Rather than competing, solutions often complement each other within a larger data strategy to enhance agility so that organizations can handle both routine and unanticipated, ad hoc workloads.”

Stodder explains that although most enterprises want faster analytics, trusted governance, and better visibility into their data, they face challenges with their current data integration and management systems. However, different workloads require different solutions; there is no one technique that will work for everyone.

Report Highlights

This comprehensive report reveals:

  • The business drivers behind data integration modernization
  • Which data integration applications and technologies are inspiring the most and least satisfaction in their users
  • Shared priorities for improving data pipelines and modernizing data catalogs
  • How new technologies are supporting a spectrum of data-driven use cases that demand faster integration and fuller understanding of data relationships

Given today’s varied users and workloads, organizations cannot rely on data strategies and techniques created for an earlier age. Stodder explores how new approaches including DataOps, semantic tools such as knowledge graphs, automated metadata processes, data fabric and data mesh, unified integration in the cloud, and data virtualization could improve data integration for many enterprises.

The report concludes with recommendations to help readers deliver greater business value from data integration, data catalogs, and related technologies and platforms.

This research was sponsored by Denodo, SnapLogic, and Stardog.
