The Data Mesh: What Is It and Is It Right for Your Organization?

Webinar Speaker: Fern Halper, TDWI VP Research, Senior Research Director for Advanced Analytics

Date: Thursday, April 28, 2022

Time: 12:00 p.m. PT, 3:00 p.m. ET

As organizations strive to derive value from their data, they are modernizing their data environments and organizational structures to support advanced analytics. Some organizations are looking to centralize their data platforms in the cloud; others are utilizing a distributed environment, held together by a data fabric. Organizational changes are also occurring as part of this move. Some companies are forming data offices utilizing hub-and-spoke organizational structures. They are forming innovation teams and tiger teams to support the move to advanced analytics.

Recently, the data mesh paradigm has emerged. First put forth by Zhamak Dehghani in 2019, the data mesh is an organizational and architectural approach to share, access, and manage analytical data in complex and large-scale environments—within or across organizations. It is a paradigm shift that moves from a centralized to distributed model, embraces self-service, and pushes the idea of both data-as-a-product and the notion of data products. The data mesh is a journey that won’t happen overnight and is not right for every company.

Join TDWI’s VP of research, Fern Halper, and Matillion’s senior director of product marketing, Paul Lacey, as they discuss the data mesh. Topics include:

  • An overview of the data mesh
  • Adoption trends
  • Challenges and opportunities for the data mesh
  • Thinking about the data mesh in practical terms
