The evolution away from reporting and dashboards to self-service and ad hoc analytics is well underway for most companies, but it's still nowhere near complete. In fact, at TDWI we see that the top analytics priority for organizations in 2020 still remains self-service analytics. Self-service capabilities enable analysts and users closest to high-value business questions to shape their own data and interactively build visualizations. However, as organizations use self-service to democratize data, they often run into both organizational and technology issues.
Top issues from an organizational perspective include building an analytics culture. Top issues from a technology perspective include implementing the right data infrastructure to support analytics. Both of these issues usually revolve around a cross-departmental center of excellence (CoE) in analytics.
