Viewpoint: Governing Diverse Data for AI
November 6, 2026
Generative and agentic AI are changing the data organizations want to use. Documents, conversations, images, and other unstructured data can now be analyzed alongside transactions, customer records, and operational data.
This creates opportunities for better insights, but it also raises a fundamental governance question: how can organizations ensure that diverse data is trustworthy, appropriately protected, and used responsibly? Governance must now extend beyond controlling access to data assets to controlling how information is interpreted, transformed, and used.
To explore these changes, TDWI spoke with Suresh Thiru, senior director at Snowflake who leads Horizon Catalog. His perspective is that governance for AI must include both structured and unstructured data, the context that gives it meaning, and the actions that models and agents take with it.
