TDWI Snapshot | The State of Data and AI Governance
October 26, 2026
To build new AI applications, organizations are using more diverse data, including documents, emails, transcripts, and external data.
This means governance must extend to how that information is transformed and used, as well as the original source. Agentic AI adds another layer of complexity because the data may support an autonomous action. Organizations need to govern what AI can access, how it uses the information, and what it can do.
In a recent TDWI webinar, Fern Halper, Ph.D., VP of research at TDWI, spoke with Joseph Santos, senior director of data advisory at ZoomInfo, about the current state of data and AI governance. The conversation included challenges organizations are having with governance, the importance of metadata and context, what “good enough” data means, and how agentic AI brings a new level of complexity to governance.
