Although automation has long been a desired outcome of data and application development initiatives, its benefits have largely been confined to automating individual tasks.
This is changing due to the concept of hyperautomation, a term originally coined by analyst firm Gartner to describe a business-driven approach for identifying opportunities to leverage automation in ways that fully encompass end-to-end business processes. It encompasses approaches to augmented automation, leveraging techniques such as machine learning (ML), artificial intelligence (AI), process mining and analysis, data and application integration, low-code/no-code development, and methods of functional encapsulation and deployment—along with an integration platform-as-a-service (iPaaS) for data and application integration.
The combination of these processes and technologies allows organizations to augment their automation strategies and identify opportunities to streamline end-to-end business processes and eliminate bottlenecks in a scalable way across the organization.
In this TDWI Insight Accelerator, we consider business drivers and technology trends that motivate business-focused augmented automation and discuss some of the operational pain points that organizations contend with in their digital transformation journeys.
