Beyond Fast Coding: Tripling Speed-to-Market Again with Adaptive Data Modeling
Ralph Hughes -  Chief Systems Architect for Ceregenics

The fragility of standard Inmon/Kimball data models demand that waiting to begin coding ETL until the data models are carefully thought out and documented, greatly delays the delivery of business intelligence services and later making EDWs very hard to update.  Luckily, our profession now has four new data paradigms that allow agile teams to pursue incremental design and construction, so we can start delivering value the minute data is available.  They also make EDWs far easier to update, greatly lowering the risk that these large, data-driven applications used to represent.

This presentation by the world’s leading authority on agile data warehousing will introduce attendees to the concepts of “progressive surface solutions” using NoSQL, big data, and hyper-modeling techniques. Properly employed, these technologies will allow DW/BI departments to triple their delivery speeds again over the original 3X acceleration that Agile’s fast coding methods have already provided.

Background info:

  • A YouTube introduction to one of the hyper modeling techniques that Ralph's teams use on EDWs. These new data modeling patterns have solved one of the most vexing problems of data warehousing and business intelligence—how to get application development started quickly and still not suffer from any oversights made during requirements gathering or during the design of the database schema.
  • TDAN's Data Vault Overview
  • Anchor Modeling
