The construction industry is notoriously stuck in the past. Technology is being embraced at a rate much slower than almost all other major industries. Construction historically is a manually driven process, and although machines have replaced men, automation of work, AI/ML, and DA, has been much slower to appear. Men and women still run the machines, and humans still make measurements, and make sure stuff gets built. Technological advancements are slowly finding their way to the workface. This presentation will show some of the ways technology can impact major construction sites. |

The world is changing, many innovations are disrupting the status quo. What was thought to be standard and stable, is now a thing of the past? Some say that projects cannot be delivered as they used to be. But can they?
This presentation will review the basics of project management, showing that the principles remains in place and the basics are still needed. The need to know what is to be delivered, when and how, and those principles do not change. Meeting expectations is still key for sponsor, client and customer. Maybe things can be done differently? Maybe we have new tools? There are trending technologies that will impact people, processes, products and will be both exciting and challenging as they continue to evolve.
The contention is that the projects will still need to be managed; processes will still need to be followed; and expectations must still be met. The project remains as a temporary endeavor undertaken to create a unique product, service, or result. It just might look different.
After this discussion it is expected that the participants will see how project management approaches can still be used even in this disrupting world. |

Bios of Presenters
Presenter #1. Steven F. Jacobs
Leveraging 33+ years of innovative leadership in the infrastructure sector, Steve is now using his technology and innovation experience to help keep the Civil Division of EllisDon on the leading edge of construction technology.
Based on his extensive planning, design, construction, and scheduling, combined with 3D modelling experience for major infrastructure projects, Steve utilizes 3D and 4D models to enhance the bid and execution phases of major infrastructure projects in value of more than $1B. By rethinking the entire process chain, efficiencies are being improved through 3D visualizations, which facilitate clash detection, reduce underground utilities conflicts, reduce re-work, and by elimination of manual data entry, improve quantity take off, and by generation of as-built plans, among other enhancements.
Presenter #2. Michael Flint
Helps organizations meet their goals and objectives by using skills and experiences in project management to achieve them.
An experienced project management professional having held Director/Executive level roles in both professional and volunteer positions; works with C-Level and Executive Management to deliver key strategic projects and programs; and is proud to have successfully met requirements and exceeded expectations.
Michael is recognized as a project management authority in the industry, having had many opportunities to speak internationally on the topic and has published works on the subject. With over 30+ year experience to draw upon, his detailed and comprehensive project management approach is provided to meet the client’s needs with focus on strategic planning; process management and governance; resource management and communication; and, in particular, financial oversight and management for projects, programs and portfolios.
A volunteer leader with the Project Management Institute (PMI) for over seventeen years, and volunteer as a Director on the Board and the Treasurer for the Canadian Association of Professional Speakers (CAPS), Michael provides fiscal reviews and direction for this highly energized group.
