There are common very critical scenarios that are specific to most data governance and MDM management programs and that are bound to occur. Why wait until they arise to address them? It may be too late by then!

Abstract
With the continued growth and increased importance of data and information, it is becoming more imperative for organizations to ensure that the quality of their data is maintained, including consistent vocabulary and entity definitions across the enterprise. This is an even bigger challenge for organizations comprised of unique and/or independently operated business units. Implementing Master Data Management (MDM) and Data Governance business processes to maintain the integrity and quality of the information within the enterprise is vital to the success of these organizations, but is not an easy task. Organizations that are able to transform themselves through MDM and Data Governance business processes will position themselves for success and gain a competitive advantage over their competitors.
Terry Brown, Senior Director Supply Chain Systems for VF Corp, will describe the VF Corp MDM and Data Governance journey, sharing the common challenges that many organizations encounter during MDM and Data Governance efforts, as well as the difficulties that were unique to VF Corp during their initial MDM and Data Governance implementation, including Domain, Integration and Organizational challenges. In addition, Terry will describe the next steps for VF Corp as they continue along their MDM and Data Governance journey. |

Bios of Presenters
Len Silverston
Len Silverston is a best-selling author, consultant, and speaker with over 30 years of experience helping organizations in various data governance and data management programs. Mr. Silverston is an internationally acclaimed expert and thought leader in the fields of data governance, data modeling, data management, and in the human dynamics of integrating information. He has helped many organizations successfully implement data governance programs, for example, from 2010 through 2012, he guided and provided data governance consulting for his client who won the 2012 Data Governance Best Practice Award.
He is the author of The Data Model Resource Book series (Volumes 1, 2, and 3), which describe hundreds of reusable data models. The volume 1 book was rated #12 on the Computer Literacy Best Seller List and his volume 1 and 2 books have been translated into Chinese and in 2009, he co-authored “The Data Model Resource Book, Volume 3, Universal Patterns for Data Modeling”, which has been translated into Korean. Mr. Silverston has published many articles and has been a keynote speaker at many international data conferences. He is the winner of the DAMA (Data Administration Management Association) International Professional Achievement Award for 2004 and the DAMA International Community Award for 2006. He has given many keynotes and has received the highest speaker rating at several international conferences. Mr. Silverston's company, Universal Data Models, LLC, provides consulting, training, publications, and software to enable information integration.
Terry Brown
Terry joined VF in 2003 as CIO at their Sportswear Division. He took ownership of VF Distribution and Logistic Systems in 2005, and responsibility for VF Supply Chain Systems in 2010. He is responsible for strategy development and project delivery for Supply Chain Systems which includes Sourcing, Logistics, Order Management, Planning and Distribution Systems.
Prior to VF, Brown served as Director of Distribution Systems at Nautica Enterprises where he helped reshape their distribution network. He has led development of distribution and logistic networks with leading branded apparel and consumer goods companies for over 20 years. In 1996, he co-authored a book on “How to Implement Warehouse and Distribution Systems” published by McGraw-Hill in 1996.
Brown graduated in Mechanical Engineering from Purdue University in 1984. After graduation, Terry joined IBM Corporation and developed robotic mechanical systems within their personal printer division, and then joined their Application Solutions Lab to pioneer warehouse management application development.
