Sneakers (1992) is a fun caper/heist movie with cryptography driving the action. With a phenomenal cast and Dr Leonard Adleman as a technical consultant, the film has withstood the test of time. Sneakers possesses a freshness that belies its nearly 3-decade-old birth certificate, and displays the commitment to technical accuracy you would expect from Dr Adleman (the “A” in RSA Encryption). Billed as a comedy (Dan Aykroyd is one of the stars, after all), today’s audiences will not only enjoy the light-hearted script and interplay between the motley crew of characters, but also delight in the sight of phones with cords and the width of Timothy Busfield’s tie.
It wouldn’t be a TDWI event, though, without some educational element. Our movie night will be introduced by a practicing security professional who will share his insights to the state of the art at the time the movie was released – what was real, what was envisioned that’s around the corner today, and where did the script writers take a little license to have fun and to advance the plot.

Speaker Bio
Craig Hotchkiss CISSP CISM, Manager Information Security/IAM at the outdoor gear retailer REI. Craig has been a practicing security engineer and led teams of security engineers for more than 12 years. Craig has been part of the evolution of cyber security capabilities, and a designer and implementer of those capabilities to enable secure business growth. He currently specializes in identity and access management including authentication, identity lifecycle and authorization, privileged access management, identity store management, and identity-driven data protection.
