Presentation: "Sex, Lies, and Unstructured Data” by Erick Watson, Moodwire, Inc.

Abstract: A World of Prurient Interests and Business Imperatives
“Big Data”, “Twitter Firehose”, “Social Media”, and “Customer Journey” – as data professionals, we hear these buzzwords bandied about daily, but what do they really mean, and why should we care?
Has anyone ever improved revenue or profitability using a “Twitter Firehose”?
Isn’t Social Media something that only angst-ridden teens and gossip columnists spend their time pondering?
Not exactly. Moodwire explains how they collect and analyze tens of millions of social documents daily, store them in a graph database with billions of records, scour unstructured free-form text for nuances of meaning, then synthesize this data into a variety of analytics that business clients have learned how to take to the bank!
Consumer media mavens can also enjoy the latest rumors and hearsay - depending on their needs and interests.
