Presentation: "Business Applications and Value” by Mark Grabb
Abstract
Mark Grabb has experience with analytics using Hadoop across a breadth of different industries and use cases. He will discuss his approach and experience, and discuss the efficiencies over legacy approaches as well as examples of other upside benefits. Mark will speak to how Hadoop has allowed GE to transition from a big iron company to services around big data. Some fascinating examples of the “internet of things” and the relationship to big data will be discussed. |

Presentation: “Big Data Usage of Trade Data” by Mr. Priya Ranjan
Priya will discuss big data usage of trade data at a major financial and how Hadoop was used to augment existing systems to achieve the velocity and efficiencies driven by the modern explosion of data. He will address how this can be done in a legacy environment with significant compliance constraints. Priya will also discuss some of the major pitfalls that should be avoided. |

Bios of Presenters
Mark Grabb is the Technology Leader for Analytics at the General Electric Global Research Center in New York. The Analytics Technology Organization includes labs with expertise in Applied Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Quantitative Finance, Operations Research, Machine Learning, Signal Processing, Image Analysis, and Computer Vision. Analytics Research at GE and for GE is primarily focused on the company’s services businesses in the industrial sectors as well as GE Capital in financial services. Mark and his teams invent and develop big data analytics that are key components within larger GE Software solutions that enable GE’s customers to generate profit by increasing their revenues, lowering their costs, and managing their risks. Mark holds over 26 issued US patents. He is a registered patent agent with the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
Priya Ranjan is an Enterprise Data architecture Leader. In the financial services industry, Priya has been a technology leader with global enterprise expertise in Database Architecture and Data Warehousing. Priya’s specialties include Big Data, Database Architecture, Data Warehousing, Financial Books and Records, Managing Global Teams, and Offshore Team Development. As an Executive Director at Morgan Stanley, Priya managed a team that developed and managed a large financial data warehouse, evolving it through several technological migrations. At the New York Stock Exchange, Priya was involved with evaluating and developing Big Data technologies. Currently, Priya is involved with Hadoop as a Big Data solution at JPMorgan Chase & Co. in the Consumer and Community Banking division.
