TDWI - DQ for Big Data ADD 20140909

When:

Tuesday, 9 September 2014

Where:

Radisson Blu Portman Hotel
22 Portman Square Street
London W1H 7BG

Topics:

“Data Quality with Big Data” presented by Alan Duncan.

“Big Data” is big business. Data analytics are currently high on the business agenda, the role of the Data Scientist is the current hottest job in the IT profession, and many high-profile organisations seem to be falling over themselves to appoint Chief Data Officers (even if the scope of the role is still somewhat nebulous).

Meanwhile, the business uses for these new capabilities are still yet to emerge. Some commentators are suggesting that Text Analytics will prove to be the “killer app for Big Data”, but according to the latest Gartner Hype Cycle, “Big Data” has just passed over the “peak of inflated expectations” and is heading for the “Trough of Disillusionment”, indicating that there is still some way to go before these solutions become pervasive in delivery of real business value.

This session will cut through the technology vendor hype to examine the issues of meaningful high-quality information in the world of “Big Data”, exploring what is needed to derive real business value from the proliferation of new and more complex data.

  • The real problem for Big Data - Context
  • Data Quality challenges for Big Data: pre-processing, semantic disambiguation and data veracity
  • Stages of Data Quality intervention
  • Establishing actionable business outcomes and analytic value

“Integrating MDM and Business Intelligence” presented by Scott Adams.

In this presentation Scott will discuss master data management (MDM) within the context of Business Intelligence.

The presentation will look at entity management, hierarchy management, and the MDM lifecycle, focusing specifically on how an MDM system can become an integrated part of a data warehouse and business intelligence solution. Scott will illustrate the presentation using Microsoft’s Master Data Services, Data Quality Services, Integration Services, SharePoint and Power View.
