“Reshaping the BI Landscape with Agile Methodology”
By Dr. Suzette Johnson, Northrop Grumman Corporation
|
|
Abstract
Adoption of Agile methods continues to soar in software environments from small teams to across large organizations. We recognize the challenge and need for keeping pace with the rate of change from both the technological and business perspective. We feel the increasing challenge of getting business intelligence to the right person at the right time to make better more informed decisions. How can we manage this change and deal with this complex development at the same time? In this presentation we will begin with a foundational discussion on Agile methods and provide some suggestions and approaches to support a successful implementation of Agile in business intelligence environments

“Visual Data Warehousing: How to Combine Modern Data Visualization With Data Warehousing to Achieve Breakthrough Results”
By Greg Jones, Chief Technology Officer, Tiber Solutions LLC
|
|
Abstract
In many respects, data warehousing has achieved maturity. The architecture, tools and practices we use today are widely understood and almost universally adopted. Even with all this success, big challenges still exist. By some estimates, more than half of all data warehouse projects fail. They take too long, cost too much or fail to deliver hoped-for business value.
In the face of these persistent problems, the industry has tried a wide variety of remedies including: packaged solutions, “agile” methodologies and cloud infrastructure. Still, data warehouse success often proves elusive.
Recently, visualization has emerged as the “next big thing” in data warehousing. Many organizations use visualization to more easily examine data in the warehouse and some even attempt to forego the data warehouse altogether. While useful under some circumstances, these approaches do little to address the root causes of data warehouse project failure. But there is hope…
There is an emerging body of evidence showing that when applied throughout the data warehouse project life cycle, rather than as an after-the-fact “add-on” data visualization can successfully help overcome risks and deliver on the promise of data warehousing that has been with us since the 80’s.
This presentation uses real world examples that describe precisely how to combine data visualization and data warehousing to deliver data warehouse systems that offer greater business benefits in shorter timeframes than ever before.
Attendees will learn why you can’t add data visualization after your warehouse is built and still realize the benefits offered by an integrated approach. We will describe in detail how to integrate visualization into every step of your data warehouse life cycle: from requirements through production and maintenance.
