             Abstract
Data management for analytics is an exciting field these days, to put it mildly. But the excitement often takes the form of confusion and anxiety because it takes daunting effort to navigate through what the multitude of commercial and open-source data management platforms do and where they should be deployed in order to promote better business operations, decisions and outcomes. Organizations are increasingly feeling the pressure to more creatively democratize and monetize vast amounts of existing and new data in a variety of formats. Managing today’s data and putting it to work poses new challenges. This presentation will provide insight on the future of the core functional domains of “Data Management for Analytics”, as well as recommendations for how an organization might consider applying these technologies as they continue on the journey towards better business outcomes through advanced analytics.

             Abstract
In today’s data landscape, IT and Business teams remain largely disjointed. The business needs to react quickly to ever-changing business problems and doesn’t always know where to start. With changing requirements, particularly during the data discovery process, IT teams striving to build a full-scale data warehouse struggle to keep up. After all, each change requires additional ETL and business logic to pull data away from source systems and conform data into a traditional Data Warehouse solution. While this is the ultimate end solution for a business, it ignores a real fact: We really don’t know what we haven’t looked at or if the data we think is useful actually is useful/actionable. In this presentation, Kevin will take a model-first approach to get analytical data in the hands of business users from Iteration 1 by creating on-the-fly in-memory data marts as a precursor to a big-bang Data Warehouse build. The strategies discussed in this presentation will help decrease cycle time between iterations, allowing for business users to participate in the data discovery process along the way.
