Abstract
Data Security, regulatory and compliance requirements are driving organizations to protect sensitive data such as personally identifiable information (PII), health records and credit card data.  However, obfuscating data is more complex than it seems given the myriad of requirements to not only create realistic masked values, but also to provide the ability to return the data to its original form.  In this presentation, we’ll define data masking and discuss the different techniques available to secure your data without diminishing its usability.

In this informative session, Tim Patnode, the Data Governance Practice Lead for Datasource Consulting, who has led multi-billion dollar organizations in successful Business Intelligence & Data Governance initiatives, will deliver 20 tips for building and strengthening a Data Governance program.

Bios of Presenters

Steve Dine
Managing Partner and founder of Datasource Consulting, LLC

Steve Dine is the managing partner and founder of Datasource Consulting, LLC.   He has extensive experience delivering and managing successful, highly scalable and maintainable data integration and business intelligence solutions. Steve combines hands-on technical experience across the entire BI project lifecycle with strong business acumen.  He is the former Director of Global Data Warehousing for a major durable medical equipment manufacturing company and currently works as a consultant for Fortune 500 companies.  Steve is a faculty member at TDWI and a judge for the Annual TDWI Best Practices Awards.   He teaches courses and presents on the topics of Lean BI, BI in the Cloud and Enabling BI for the 21st Century. Steve earned his bachelor's degree from the University of Vermont and a MBA from the University of Colorado at Boulder.
Tim Patnode
Data Governance Practice Lead for Datasource Consulting, LLC

Tim Patnode has an extensive background in Business Intelligence, Enterprise Performance, and Data Governance. He has led multi-billion dollar organizations like ESPN, Fox Television and Kaiser Permanente in successful Business Intelligence and Data Governance initiatives. Tim’s career has taken a path through all phases of managing information technology, and his passion has centered on how organizations can leverage the power of their data assets through effective use of Business Intelligence and analytics. Tim is the Data Governance Practice Lead for Datasource Consulting, based in Denver.
