Bio of Presenter

Tim Batten
Chief Information Officer
MetLife Australia

Tim Batten joined MetLife Australia as Chief Information Officer in July 2015. In this role he is responsible for the management, transformation and continuous improvement of MetLife’s IT function, with a particular focus on delivering operational excellence and digital enablement. Tim has over 20 years of experience in the IT industry and a proven track record in driving technology teams supporting digital transformation. He previously worked at Woolworths, where he held a range of roles with responsibility for IT strategy and architecture, infrastructure, innovation and digital services. Most recently, he led the technology team in the Woolworths Marketplace division. Tim’s team developed the technology which underpinned Woolworths’ground-breaking collaboration with EBay on “Simply Collect”, and also the innovative Big W marketplace-based website relaunch.

Prior to Woolworths, Tim led the Online Banking Technology team at Westpac, where he was accountable for both the change program and day-to- day operations of Westpac’s consumer, business and corporate online banking services. Tim has also held leadership roles in Soprano Design (a small but globally successful mobile technology company), NAB, KPMG and Telstra. Tim holds an MBA from Melbourne Business School and a Masters of Engineering Science from Monash University.
