Innovate with Data: Showcasing the Winners of the BigInsights Data Innovation Awards

The recently awarded BigInsights Data Innovation Awards are specifically focused on recognising teams and end user organisations that are doing ground-breaking work to deliver business outcomes using data analytics and IoT technologies and techniques and we will hear from the winners.

About the Winners

Winner, Data Analytics: Ambiata

Solution: NewsConnect

This solution is a large-scale machine learning training and scoring system that enables personalised ad serving and is currently in production in one of the world’s largest media companies. Data volumes collected by major media groups can be vast, with millions of readers and thousands of content pieces per week. Rich information can reach petabyte level over the course of a year. Over 18 months, Ambiata crafted a data solution capable of training scores of models for varied segmentation and optimisation problems, and delivering weekly snapshots of the customer base.

Winner, Start Up: Briometrix

Solution: Briometrix

Briometrix generates data that creates motivation, social and peer engagement, establishes benchmarks for skills, and generates knowledge that can be shared across the wheelchair community (healthcare, insurance, wheelchair manufactures, and retailers). The technology assists wheelchair users to have fewer acute and overuse injuries, an improved sense of well-being (through self-esteem, self-efficacy, confidence, and personal control, the sense of becoming newly ‘abled’, empowerment, and having accomplished something of worth) and having fun.

Winner, Internet of Things: Internet of Light

Solution: Light Net

IoL Technologies (IoL) leverages the global LED lighting revolution and existing electrical infrastructure to create a new communications infrastructure focused on deriving intelligence and big data from our built environments. Light Net modifies the LED circuit – that is already very similar to standard computer circuitry – to deliver communications, real time occupancy intelligence, and a wide range of other information. The technology can count people within buildings and urban spaces, delivering significant energy efficiencies over traditional sensor-equipped lighting.
