TDWI Checklist Report | Five Strategies for Creating a Culture of Self-Service for Analytics and Business Intelligence

April 28, 2020

A majority of businesses we survey say that self-service is important to them. In fact, TDWI research indicates that self-service ranks at the top of the list of priorities for organizations in 2020. Examples of self-service analytics can be found across the entire analytics life cycle from data preparation to building out analytics and advanced insights.

Driving this momentum are business analysts and business users. They want tools that enable them to be more productive, nimble, and effective in working with data and applying data-driven insights to their daily decisions. Similarly, data experts are often frustrated by the constant stream of requests for reports and dashboards.

However, organizations often struggle to develop the skills, practices, and technologies needed to make self-service ubiquitous enterprisewide. Some struggle to increase data literacy skills—e.g., the ability to understand, work with, and communicate with data. Access to trusted data and the continuous creation of new data silos remain issues. Others have trouble balancing governance, compliance, and security with self-service strategies.

This Checklist Report focuses on helping organizations understand and employ organizational and technology best practices for fostering a self-service analytics and BI culture.
