Abstract
With an ever increasing demand for a mixture of information buried in CGU's volatile operational landscape and degrees of requirement maturity, CGU have embarked on a major data warehousing initiative (Lumina) which employs the Data Vault method.
Each financial year CGU's Project Management Office ranks the major projects and internally publishes the result. Lumina currently sits at the top of PMO's ladder.
CGU's Senior Manager of BI and business owner of Lumina Jeff Olson will convey the motivation to back the Data Vault method, benefits yielded and attributes he believes makes up a successful delivery team.
Senior Solution Architect Adam McGuinness will articulate the various use cases being realised by Lumina, how the logical components of the Data Vault deliver to these, provide some in depth details of various physical elements, and cover supporting capabilities required for a successful implementation. |

Jeff Olson, Senior Manager of BI
CGU
Since joining CGU in 2012, Jeff Olson has led the organisation’s Business Intelligence function, responding to a rapidly changing information landscape for the insurance industry. Jeff continues to focus the organisation on ‘bleeding the value’ out of legacy assets while enabling an ambitious CGU strategy for partnership and service market differentiation. The dynamic business that CGU is becoming means that information must be increasingly flexible, responsive and abundant.
Adam McGuinness, Senior Solution Architect
CGU
Adam McGuinness has worked in data warehousing, business intelligence, analytics and information management since the mid-nineties. Adam currently fulfils the role of Data Warehouse and Business Intelligence Solution Architect at CGU Insurance.
Understanding that as a result of alternative use cases and requirement maturity, Adam believes that with information being presented and consumed in various fashions, a "one size fits all" approach inevitably leads to "cottage industry" solutions. These in turn can result in informational discrepancies across the enterprise, and frequently contribute to an organisation's technical debt. Adam endeavours to design flexible frameworks with associated principles that evolve in line with information needs.
