Modern Data Sharing for Better Analytics

Webinar Speaker: Philip Russom, Senior Research Director for Data Management

Date: Tuesday, December 3, 2019

Time: 9:00 a.m. PT, 12:00 p.m. ET

New technologies, tool features, and user practices broaden data sharing across modern users and use cases.

In TDWI's 2019 survey on cloud data management, users reported that use cases depending on data sharing (analytics, reporting, data-driven operations, and self-service) are imperiled when the owners of data and platforms are not willing to embrace the cloud fully (24% of survey respondents), which increases the difficulty of sharing data across all parties, inside and outside the organization (27%). Given the critical nature of data sharing, it behooves organizations to modernize their tools and practices.

Like most practices in data management and analytics, modern data sharing technology is being used to satisfy new business requirements for collaboration, data science, analytics, data monetization, sales and marketing, solving data silo problems, and more.

This TDWI webinar will cover several trends and innovations in data sharing:

  • Extending the scope of shared data to reach more of the enterprise
  • Improving collaboration across data science and analytics teams via shared data
  • Democratizing data access by enabling more enterprise users to collaborate with each other via shared data, including business domain experts (marketers, sales people, accountants, operations specialists, managers, etc.)
  • Optimizing supply chain operations by sharing data with partners and suppliers
  • Monetizing data assets by providing customers with access to data and providing data sharing and enrichment services
  • Implementing data governance via mechanisms for data security, masking, encryption, and curation
  • Consolidating and aggregating shared data on modern data platforms, such as cloud data warehouses, data lakes, and data hubs
  • Building data products on top of shared data for better analytics, customer experience, and business insights
  • Creating a centrally-managed data hub and catalog where shared data is properly controlled and governed while improving data access and security
