Barrett Foat – Director of Data Science – Centenne Corp
In order to build a data science function at an existing company, you need to line up products, platforms, and people (3Ps). What are the characteristics of the best data science product opportunities to use as early wins? What are the best platforms for speed and scale of data science model development and deployment? What kinds of skills and culture should you hire for and develop to build your data science team? I will draw examples from three such scenarios, two data science teams that I built in Monsanto R&D and the one I am currently building.

Bios of Presenters

Barrett Foat – Director of Data Science - Centene Corporation
Barrett builds data analytics teams, molds their practices, and shapes their infrastructure. He is passionate about driving the cycle of data-driven insight and practical application.

Ed Dueser – Technical Architect – RGA Reinsurance Company
Ed is a Technical Architect with RGA Reinsurance Company. In this role, Ed is responsible for technical solutions that support RGA’s global business units, including Valuation, Financial Solutions, Underwriting, and Global Research, Development, and Analytics. He also served as the technical lead for B3i, the Blockchain Insurance Industry Initiative, on RGAs’ behalf and guides other digital objectives for RGA.
Ed received his Bachelor of Science in Information Systems from the University of Missouri–St. Louis. He is also a published author for the Society of Actuaries’ Predictive Analytics and Futurism Section newsletter.
