As organizations seek to utilize more diverse data types to drive better insights, better applications, and better actions, they are enriching their data sets with new kinds of data and using more modern analytics. TDWI research indicates that data sources such as internal text data, machine data, and geospatial data are already being used by many organizations. The majority of organizations in our surveys also use demographic data.
However, newer data sources are available to organizations. These include weather data, industry-specific data, or open data sources. This data may be structured or unstructured in nature and used with modern analytics such as machine learning or natural language processing. These data sources may be available through third parties via data marketplaces. They can help to enhance analytics.
A data marketplace is an online, transactional store that facilitates the buying and selling of data. It can help organizations streamline access to external data and provide a better buying experience. Organizations are utilizing marketplaces to access new data sources, collaborate with partners, and even monetize their own data.
