Overcoming the Obstacles for Data Lake Success

Webinar Speaker: Evan Levy, TDWI Faculty Member and Consultant

Date: Thursday, May 19, 2022

Time: 9:00 a.m. PT, 12:00 p.m. ET

Business users have a tremendous appetite for data. The “single version of the truth” was a rallying cry to deliver business data in data warehouses for years. Users were able to digest and analyze large volumes of corporate data. They reviewed trends, identified anomalies, and supported decision-making because they had the detailed data to support action. As the business/data environment matured, the need for more diverse detail and increased delivery speed only grew. The data lake became a successful mechanism for delivering data from diverse systems in a timely manner.

Companies positioned the data lake as the predominant data provisioning platform; it provided data storage and provisioning for a company’s source system data assets. The success of the data lake occurred because it expanded a company’s data capabilities: support for unstructured data, access to raw source data, access to dramatically larger storage resources, reduced storage costs, and much sooner access to data.

The benefits of the data lake haven’t come without trade-offs and challenges. As companies have increased the maturity of their data lake systems, they’ve learned how to work around the obstacles in delivering ready-to-use data to business users. Understanding the myths and the challenges around data lake implementation is crucial for data lake success.

Please join TDWI and Snowflake as they discuss the common pitfalls and challenges to data lake delivery along with the solutions that today’s companies have taken to position their data lake assets for success.

You will learn:

  • The business benefits of building and delivering a data lake
  • The common usage scenarios supported by a data lake
  • The myths and obstacles of data lake access and usage
  • Key considerations for resolving data lake obstacles and ensuring success
