Building a cloud-based data lake is an increasingly appealing option for establishing a framework for sharing corporate data assets. Although the cloud’s nearly-inexhaustible storage resources provide an attractive environment for an enterprise data lake, there are some nagging governance concerns that cause anxiety for chief data officers and their support staff.
For example, despite the advances cloud providers have made in managing access roles and control, individuals still fear unauthorized data exposure. Additionally, even if your organization has moved many data assets into a data lake, there is some complexity involved in ensuring that those data assets are in a format that encourages data sharing and data use. Finally, there is no way for data consumers to know what is in the data lake without some sort of guide describing the inventory.
In this webinar we explore data governance concepts for the cloud-based data lake. Attendees will learn about:
- Data lake architecture alternatives
- Data sensitivity and the need for data protection
- Methods for protecting against unauthorized data exposure
- Encouraging governed data sharing
- Data curation
- Managing data asset metadata using a data catalog
- Managing both structured and semistructured data
