Migrating applications to the cloud promises numerous benefits—reducing IT costs, simplifying system maintenance and management, enabling greater focus on system use, and speeding time to value. However, for the majority of enterprises, migrating to the cloud will involve a significant amount of complexity. Aside from the practical aspects of code and data migration, there are challenges in trying to figure out what applications and workloads to migrate, identifying the optimal instances for migrated applications, and calculating and managing costs while ensuring that performance complies with established service-level agreements.
Conventional wisdom about cloud economics implies that computing and storage resources can be configured in different ways. Yet from an objective standpoint, these configurations don’t take real-world workloads into account. When considering migrating to the cloud, you need to not only understand your current environment, you must also understand how that environment maps to the cloud and what the implications are for resource management. In this webinar, we recommend steps for preparing to migrate to the cloud.
Attendees will learn about:
- Formalizing performance expectations
- Assessing the on-premises operational context
- How analyzing process workloads contributes to cloud system architecture
- Estimating costs for cloud migration
