Modernizing Data Analytics: Moving Beyond Hadoop
TDWI Speaker: David Loshin, President of Knowledge Integrity

Time: 9:00 a.m. PT, 12:00 p.m. ET
Webinar Abstract
As an open source platform that simplified the ability to develop distributed and parallel applications, Hadoop lowered the barrier to entry for many smaller organizations interested in big data analytics. Some people have gone so far to suggest that Hadoop be used to replace their existing data warehouse.
Yet even though Hadoop and its surrounding ecosystem have matured, data practitioners are increasingly reconsidering its role in the modernized data analytics environment. The report of the data warehouse’s death is grossly exaggerated, and Hadoop is just a stepping stone in the evolution of the extended information enterprise.
In this webinar, we will explore some of the past factors that motivated the move to Hadoop for data management and analysis and then consider the relevance of those factors as we move toward the future. We will then discuss alternatives for modernized data warehousing, followed by a discussion of how to dovetail the use of Hadoop in a modernized data warehouse environment.
Attendees will learn about:
- Handling semistructured and unstructured data
- Managing growing data volumes
- Open source myths
- Simplifying your modernized data warehouse environment
- The place of Hadoop in a hybrid BI/analytics environment
