In-Memory Data Fabric: A Modern Approach to Data Warehouse Architecture

TDWI Speaker: Philip Russom, TDWI Research Director

Date: Wednesday, June 25, 2014

Time: 9:00 a.m. PT, 12:00 p.m. ET

Webinar Abstract

Defining the term data warehouse is getting more difficult. Many of the recent technology innovations in software and hardware have enabled a new generation of data warehouse architectures. In-memory processing coupled with today’s faster hardware gives new data warehouse architectures greater speed and scale. Virtualization provides agility for development and efficiency that reduces latency, data movement, and data preparation. Put those together and you get an in-memory data fabric, where the overall logical design of the warehouse is expressed as a series of virtual views (or data fabric) in large server memory, while most data is fetched from source systems and processed in-memory for extreme speed and scale.

You will learn:

  • Business reasons for a faster, more lean, and more virtual data warehouse
  • The time-intensive components of warehousing that need to be faster and leaner, namely data replication, preprocessing, modeling, ETL, and so on
  • How fast hardware, big server memory, and new software approaches have made virtualization a viable choice
  • How a data fabric provides a big picture design that makes the “single version of the truth” more of a reality, and enables gains for developer productivity, system performance, and integration between operational and analytic systems
