Accountability Information Management, Inc. (AIM) released it latest report, Data Center Construction: An Insatiable Market. In the report, AIM says it found $17 billion in data center construction in the planning stage according to the ConstructConnect database. Twenty percent of those projects are new data center construction, and the rest are additions or alterations to existing facilities.

“What we wanted to do is provide a framework to navigate this market for manufacturers, architects, owners and other professionals,” said Jim Nowakowski, president of AIM and author of the report. “We used primary and secondary research and produced a report that can serve as a strategic platform to develop marketing campaigns. We think it will help marketers understand the true scope of what is front of them if they take aim at data centers, which by the way use significant amounts of products and energy.”

The report contains an overview of data centers being built in the U.S. and Canada, including projections from research companies. Details include:

  • How COVID-19 increased the appetite for data
  • How COVID-19 impacted the data center construction including trends such as cooling systems and healthcare growth as well as IoT
  • A breakdown of 297 projects being built in data centers, including where they are being built and who is building them
  • Charts and lists of architects, contractors, owners and other key players in data center projects
