Enterprise data environments are expanding far beyond conventional on-premises platforms as organizations incorporate cloud computing to manage growing computational and storage demands. Data volumes are exploding and cloud hosts provide a range of storage options at varying prices. Although cloud storage facilities are able to accommodate practically unbounded storage needs, the information architect will need to be aware of the trade-offs required to balance cost and performance.
This webinar is an introduction to structural data tiering. We will examine the characteristics of different memory and storage tiers, discuss the trade-offs available, and provide guidance into how to make the decisions about assigning and maintaining the different storage layers. We will also explain the advantages and techniques for achieving a multilayered data system for large data warehouses, what the relevant variables are, and will provide additional guidance about determining the optimal data tiering configurations to meet designated levels of expected service. Understanding how these variables all fit together will help define rules for directing data alignment as well as maintaining the right levels of alignment with expected performance.
