TDWI Checklist Report | Data Modernization for the Telecommunications Industry

The telecommunications industry has been a longtime adopter of data warehousing (DW) and business intelligence (BI) technology. Yet, as the industry changes, as data volumes and complexity grow at a lightning pace, and as demand increases for integrated real-time advanced analytics, gaps are appearing in the ability of existing DW platforms to address critical right-time operational needs as well as emerging BI and analytics demand.
Now is the time to devise a strategy for modernization of the data management environment in ways that streamline the end-to-end processes for ingesting, transforming, loading, reporting, delivering, and analyzing data. This Checklist Report describes a vision for the future that includes using an architecture that leverages a hybrid environment combining traditional enterprise data warehouse (EDW) techniques with the ability to deploy augmentation tactics on big data environments, such as those built using the Hadoop ecosystem. Taking an approach of layering a data hub designed for both data integration and provision of operational reports enables modernization of the existing environment for operational reporting and eases the introduction of more complex advanced analytics.
