Presentation: Topic #1 Is Data Analytics a Silver Bullet for Organizations?
BY: Dr. Khaled Hassanein, DeGroote School of Business McMaster University

Recently, there has been a surge of interest in using data analytics to help organizations take advantage of “Big Data”. Indeed, the potential value that could be created through the use of data analytics is one of the key motivations for why firms are making significant investments in these technologies. However, there is largely a lack of understanding of how such tools can improve organizational performance and the mechanisms that drive this association. Following a brief introduction to this area, Dr. Hassanein, will present the results of a recent study involving 215 CIOs which investigated the importance of the fit between data analytics tools and key relevant firm elements in impacting firm agility and organizational performance gains.

10:00 – 10:25 a.m.

Presentation: Topic #2  Practical Application of Big Data (in Customer-level Analytics Solutions), Larry Filler is a Senior Vice President of the Boire Filler Division at Environics Analytics & Jim Anderson is a Senior Consultant, Data Management

One of the most significant business buzz terms of the past few decades, Big Data has now settled in as everyday terminology for some organizations and is ‘on the cusp’ for others.  But what does this mean for the data manager, analytics practitioner and business strategists?  Does all of this Big Data translate to business value?
Join Larry Filler, Senior Vice President and Jim Anderson, Senior Consultant, both of Environics Analytics.  Larry and Jim will speak about how Big Data affects the teams that work with consumer/customer-level data and walk through some case studies that have leveraged new types of data to provide insight and value.

11:30 a.m.-12:00 p.m.
