Abstract
|
This presentation provides a framework that classifies analytics according to the type of business capabilities that are enabled. The framework will help a diverse audience understand how new emerging data-driven opportunities can contribute to business value creation. Capabilities are defined, described and classified in a manner that can help organizations identify new opportunities for analytics—leading to incremental business impact and competitive advantage in the marketplace.

Abstract |
It is fun to be an “Arm Chair Quarterback” or fantasy league General Manager. This presentation will overview some of the lessons learned in playing with publically available Sports Data (Hockey and Football). Some of the areas that will be discussed:
- Data challenges in sourcing and cleansing
- Granularity for analytical success
- The anatomy of a Good and Bad prediction
While we don’t guarantee that attending this session will help you win your fantasy league, some good data and analytical best practices will be discussed through a topic that will excite your passion for Analytics

Bios of Presenters
SPEAKER BIO: Mark Peco, CBIP is an experienced consultant, educator, manager and analyst. Holding graduate and undergraduate degrees in engineering from the University of Waterloo he has led numerous consulting and software projects helping clients adapt to fundamental shifts in business models and requirements.
As a leading practitioner in the field of Business Intelligence and Analytics Mark is a faculty member of TDWI and delivers lectures to companies on a global basis about the challenges, opportunities and risks associated with implementing “intelligent” business solutions. Mark has received the CBIP (Certified Business Intelligence Professional) designation at the mastery level. His professional focus remains at the intersection of business, operations and technology.

SPEAKER BIO: Tim Trussell is a Manager and Specialist of Data Sciences at SAS Canada. Since joining SAS 10 years ago Tim has assisted many organizations in understanding how analytics drives competitive advantage and supports management decisions. Tim has partnered with Financial Institutions, Retailers, Government Organizations and Telecommunications companies in designing and implementing solutions surrounding the full analytical modeling lifecycle. His passion for the topic and creativity in solving business problems make him a frequently requested speaker at industry sessions and conferences, having presented at sessions with Predictive Analytics World, the Toronto Data Mining Forum and CSRSA, as well as sitting on many thought leader panels.
