Presentation: "High performance systems for Big Data” presented by Jesse Shaw, consulting software engineer at LexisNexis Risk Solutions.

Abstract
Many organizations now have the need to process and analyze massive volumes of data. These data-intensive computing requirements can be addressed by scalable systems based on hardware clusters of commodity servers coupled with system software to provide a distributed file storage system, job execution environment, online query capability, parallel application processing, and parallel programming development tools. The HPCC Systems platform provides all of these capabilities in an integrated, easy to implement and use, open source high performance computing environment. This session will provide an overview of the HPCC Systems platform and present case studies of its use.

9:45 – 10:00 am

Break and Networking

10:00 – 11:30 am

Presentation: "Big Data needs Big Search – But what does that mean?” presented by Mark Unak, CTO of Codifyd.

Abstract
As organizations continue to embrace the concepts of higher volume and more heterogeneous data, how easily data consumers can search and discover across these data stores remains a core challenge. This is applicable for both internal and external facing applications but everyone shops online and everyone understands the frustration of getting too many search results or recommendations that are simply out of context or worse, completely unrelated to the query.

Codifyd is a company that grapples with these challenges every day and their solutions within the Products Metadata arena shine a light on some new methods for achieving rich and insightful query results. Mark Unak, Codifyd’s CTO will discuss various strategies for describing and categorizing data touching on topics such as data modeling, meta-data definition and search optimization. If you have ever searched online for a “17 inch laptop computer” or a “1/4 inch magnetic screwdriver” and wondered if the online retailer is actually going out of their way to hide these products from you, you will find Mark’s presentation illuminating.
