Presentation: The Current Landscape of BI Teams, BI Skills in Demand, and How to Successfully Promote Yourself in Today’s Market by Jeff Fowler / Rezult Group

 

Business Intelligence resources are in high demand and the demand is getting higher and higher.  In this presentation, Jeff will discuss BI skill sets that are in demand in the Nashville market, what the current make-up of a BI team looks like, and what things can potential job seekers do to make themselves more marketable.

Data is all around us today and can be harnessed to provide actionable insights.  Many organizations are taking advantage of the cloud to work with information, but how to be successful in the space can be a challenge.   From traditional transactional systems to data warehouses and now Big Data and Internet of Things there are several options available to gain a better understanding of your business.  We will explore several options on how data in the cloud can be used and provide lessons learned and best practices to prepare for the journey.   Many benefits await those who can make the transition and embrace the opportunity by leveraging hybrid approaches for their organization.

While Business Intelligence has been in existence for many years there are still many around the technology community that are not familiar with “BI” or if they have heard of it, they think it’s a vast assortment of complex components that together comprise the Business Intelligence “system”.  While many may be on the complex side, BI solutions don’t have to be.  In this presentation we will sort through all of the smoke and make it simple.  We will look at the what, why, and how as it relates to Business Intelligence.

Bios of Presenters

Jeff Fowler

Jeff has been in the IT recruiting field since 1995.  He has held positions in recruiting, sales, operations, as well as major account management.  His tenure in recruiting has allowed him to work in some of the most competitive markets including Miami, Atlanta, and currently Nashville.  He has worked with all size companies including Fortune 100 companies all the way to the VC funded startups during the .com boom.  He has worked in such industries as Retail, Hospitality,  Banking, Finance,  Telecommunications and IT. 

Dan Evans

Dan Evans (BI) is the North America Business Analytics Practice Director for SolidQ with over 25 years’ experience in applying innovative solutions to business needs. His key focus areas are Advanced Analytics, Business Intelligence, Enterprise Performance Management and Data Strategy on the Microsoft Data Platform.  Dan works heavily in promoting technology across North America through involvement through user forums (.NET, PASS, Ignite) and industry-recognized organizations (TDWI, DAMA).  Specialties include business technology solutions, management consulting, business analytics, Big Data, Internet of Things, project management, technical strategic planning and new business development.>

Chris Bowman

Chris is the current president of the Tennessee TDWI chapter and a Sr. Business Intelligence Engineer on the Data Services team at Kroll in Nashville.  He has over 30 years’ experience in technology with the past 18 years in Business Intelligence.  His experience includes both traditional Data Warehousing, Operational BI, Analytics, and Visualization solutions.  His background includes extensive experience with architecture and design, development and QA, reporting, analytics, & visual solutions along with managing multiple teams.  His multi-faceted background includes experience in finance, utilities, marketing, fundraising, healthcare, and retail.  His passion with BI consists of the entire lifecycle development process concluding with deployed solutions that bring real life value to the business.
