Data privacy and protection requirements can no longer be brushed aside. In 2018, the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) went into effect; GDPR set new standards for how organizations must protect EU citizens’ data that they collect, share, and analyze or face stiff financial and reputational penalties. Now, the clock is ticking for firms based in California or that have customers or employees who live in the state. On January 1, 2020, the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) will become law. Inspired by and modeled on GDPR, CCPA gives consumers the right to know what information businesses are collecting about them, their children, and the devices they are using. Companies will need to be able to inform consumers about which categories of their personal information they may be selling and to whom—and they must give consumers the right to say no.
Data privacy and protection requirements will continue to evolve as more states and countries regulate what firms can do with customer data and set out penalties for noncompliance. It is essential that organizations have the capacity to discover where they are holding personally identifiable information (PII) and related data about customers. Organizations must be able to discover, protect, and govern the use of other types of sensitive data as well. This is becoming increasingly difficult as data volumes grow across all platforms, including those in the cloud. The job is too big to handle in an ad hoc, manual fashion.
Join this TDWI Webinar to learn how you can address challenges posed by data privacy and protection regulations such as CCPA and prepare for others in the future. We will discuss CCPA, how it compares to GDPR, and the steps organizations must take to comply. We will look at technologies and best practices that will help you improve compliance as well as govern the range of sensitive data for trusted BI and analytics processes.
Topics that this Webinar will cover include:
- What you need to know about CCPA and related data privacy and protection requirements
- How to improve data discovery so you can locate sensitive data across systems, including data lakes and cloud-based platforms
- Technology advances for smarter and more automated data discovery, data cataloging, lineage tracking, and audit reporting
- Practices for reducing the amount of time and cost involved
- Strategies that can improve not only compliance but also governance and trust in the data for BI and analytics
