TDWI Checklist Report | Six Data Considerations for Successful Multicloud Deployments

April 29, 2021

As organizations’ data and analytics efforts become more mature, they collect and utilize more diverse data and perform more sophisticated analytics. TDWI research indicates that the vast majority of organizations have moved to the cloud or are planning to move to the cloud to support their evolving requirements.

Organizations are not only moving to the cloud—in some cases they are using more than one cloud provider as part of a multicloud arrangement. A multicloud deployment is one where the organization uses multiple cloud providers (two or more) to support infrastructure, applications and key business functions. The idea is to take advantage of the best features/services of each cloud provider where they suit the workload—or to support backup or specific regions.

This is happening today; according to TDWI research, the average organization currently uses two cloud providers for data management. The ability to deliver cross-cloud capabilities that connect data without moving/copying it, deliver consistent governance/security, and provide capabilities to access and act on the data (for pipelines, analytics, data science, data lakes, etc.) can help organizations succeed with their cloud data efforts.

This report discusses six data-focused considerations for succeeding with multicloud deployments and examines some of the benefits of cross-cloud functionality for data sharing in a multicloud environment.
