Individuals at many organizations now recognize the benefits of migrating their existing on-premises reporting and analytics data warehouse applications to the cloud.
Aside from the broad array of computing and storage resources cloud hosts provide, there are native auxiliary services and third-party software platforms for reporting and analytics that can supersede the capabilities of traditional on-premises deployments. If you’re still entirely on premises, you need to evaluate your data warehousing and analytics application landscape and assess its suitability for movement to the cloud, as well as for overall system modernization.
That being said, different applications are suited to different migration scenarios, requiring alternatives for prioritizing the systems to be moved and a reasonable plan to ensure a successful migration.
This checklist provides guidance to the information professional who needs to justify a cloud migration initiative, educate the communities of stakeholders and data consumers about the benefits of migration, and devise a strategy and a plan for migration.
