Building Your Company's Data Governance Roadmap

Duration: One Day Course

Prerequisite: None

Data governance success relies upon a strategy and roadmap that improves data and delivers business value. In this course, you will learn to build a successful data governance strategy that identifies an agenda, engages with team members, and prioritizes activities focused on fixing problems to streamline and simplify data usage.

Building a sustainable data governance program can be challenging. Data resources are immense, complex, and continually growing. Although data should be easy to access and use, the sheer size of companies, the quantity of systems, and the number of users makes establishing standards, defining rules, and managing it all seem overwhelming. Data governance initiatives typically begin with lots of energy, interest, and enthusiasm only to struggle with ongoing commitment, consistent participation, and delivering value.

When organizations struggle with data governance, it’s often due to unrealistic expectations, undefined goals, and unknown time frames. Building a sustainable data governance program (or fixing a derailed one) requires defining a strategy and building a roadmap based on user-valued success criteria. Plus, it has to align with a company’s business needs and IT methods.

The goal for successful data governance isn’t data perfection—it’s about fixing data problems and simplifying data access and usage. In this class, Evan Levy will review the business drivers for a data governance program and show you how to identify and prioritize program goals and objectives, identify teams and team members (along with their roles and responsibilities), and identify an agenda and process that delivers business value.
