The Data Supply Chain: How DataOps Makes Data Engineering Scalable (GMT Timezone)

Webinar Speaker: Evan Levy, TDWI Faculty Member and Consultant

Date: Monday, October 25, 2021

Time: 10:00 a.m. GMT

The idea that data is a business asset that’s critical to operations and decision making isn’t a new concept. We’ve developed techniques to harvest data from applications, systems, and even third-party sources, and we’ve been successful in delivering this data to support data and analytics. Unfortunately, most organizations have approached these data tasks as one-off, custom activities.

Today’s business users are asking for data content, new data sources, and the ability to address their analytical needs in a self-service fashion. Unfortunately, the data processes that many have built are specific to individual business requests and not designed to be shared and reused by a large audience (even though that’s a necessity in a cloud data environment). What organizations need is a data supply chain process that can deliver data content in an agile and reusable manner.

The concepts of assembly lines and supply chains have been used across many industries to simplify the delivery of products. In the era of data being a business product, it’s time to apply these techniques to deliver data in an agile, repeatable, and scalable manner. These practices and methodologies give rise to the concept of DataOps when applied in modern cloud environments.

During this presentation, we will review the most common data delivery obstacles and discuss how applying data supply chain concepts can dramatically improve data development productivity and delivery speed. We’ll also discuss how Matillion has helped their customers transition their data environments to the cloud with new agile, scalable data development capabilities.

You will learn:

  • Data delivery obstacles in an analytics and self-service data environment
  • The core DataOps concepts behind the data supply chain
  • Key aspects of migrating data development to agile, scalable methods
  • The benefits of implementing a data supply chain with a DataOps approach
