Turning Big Data Insights into Business Value
In one of the strongest trends today, many user organizations are moving deeper into advanced analytics with big data. That’s because conventional wisdom now tells us that there are business insights to be discovered and leveraged in big data.
Yet, many organizations are new to big data and the kinds of analytics and insights associated with it. This explains why many are not, as yet, getting full business value from the new facts, relationships, and trends they’re discovering in big data. All too often, insights developed by business analysts, data scientists, and similar users are shared with a small group of managers, but not the entire enterprise, as represented by consumers of reports, dashboards, and other products of business intelligence (BI). Part of the problem is that big data requires certain data management and analytic practices, whereas getting full business value from big data insights requires others.
It’s time to “operationalize” the outcome of advanced analytics with big data and other data sets so that the lessons learned become repeatable and extended to a larger group of BI users. For this to happen, user organizations need to close the loop between analytic and BI processes, as well as those for big data and traditional data management.
