When Good Data is Still Bad: Making Sense of Your Data

Webinar Abstract
As many companies have ramped up their efforts for self-service BI, understanding and trusting the data remain key barriers to successful business intelligence. Business users need more than access to data and dashboards; they need to understand the definitions and nuances behind the numbers. Business metadata provides users the much-needed context to their data. Some BI teams publish dictionaries to address this gap, but what business users really want is to view definitions within the context of a report or dashboard. IT needs to be able to respond to changing business requirements by seeing the impact of changing definitions and transformations at all points in the BI lifecycle.

What you will learn:

  • Importance of data quality, but why clean data can still be considered wrong
  • Approaches to providing business definitions to decision makers
  • Differences between business meta data and technical metadata
  • Impact analysis and where you need it in your BI lifecycle
