Determining whether BI is making a difference in an organization is very difficult. It is easy to measure what BI costs, but in order to complete an ROI, one has to also measure the value that BI brings to the organization. That is the focus of this presentation. We will begin by exploring the components that constitute success, and close by looking at a process to determine how to measure this success.

There are 3 major components of success for a BI Initiative: Business Success, Political Success, and Technical Success. These measures are not only important to determining ones ROI, but they are also necessary to manage the quality of the initiative, and the evolution of the initiative over time.

You will learn:

  • Why BI should be managed as a program, rather than a set of individual projects.
  • Explore the factors that make up the 3 major components of Success, and why failing on any one of the 3 can be fatal to a BI Initiative.
  • Explore how to use the measures associated with these components to not only measure success, but also manage quality and change.
  • A look at the GQMM process for determining how to measure success.
