Self-service and data literacy are terms frequently used to describe new BI approaches that give more power to end users so they can be less dependent on IT intervention. The goal is to enable end users to be more agile in developing business-critical data insights. However, designing a data architecture that empowers end users to be “citizen analysts” without adding an overwhelming burden to their day-to-day lives doesn't come without challenges. A failed approach—and frustrated end users—can put even more pressure on IT resources.

In this session, we will explore components that are key for this architecture to work. We will describe the vital role of a semantic logical layer provided by data virtualization.
