Knowledge Integrity and TDWI Fellow

With so much attention being paid to adoption of artificial intelligence technologies and agents, it is easy to forget that most organizations are still dependent on their business intelligence infrastructures to support data-driven decision-making. Traditional BI and analytics are not going to disappear quickly.

In this TDWI research briefing, David Loshin will discuss how the next generation of BI and analytics is evolving via what we might call “AI Codependency.” Companies are integrating AI/LLM chatbots with existing BI technologies, simplifying self-service analytics by enabling a conversational front end for reporting requests. In addition, there are business use cases that have not yet been assessed for AI augmentation, suggesting that there are fertile areas of exploration for AI/BI integration.

Loshin will also outline potential barriers to success, such as the need for trustworthy AI. Ungoverned integration of AI/LLMs coupled with automation bias can lull people into blindly trusting AI responses. Yet many organizations are not yet positioned to establish proper governance, particularly when they assume that AI governance only requires the same policies and procedures as data governance. TDWI research indicates some bright spots: some organizations have appropriately determined the proper approaches to AI/BI governance as a combination of technical DevOps management and sociotechnical oversight.

Following his analysis of market trends, Loshin will lead a panel of experts in an engaging discussion of the next generation of AI-fueled BI and analytics.
