Best Practices for Handling Data Governance and Compliance Challenges

February 18, 2021

Prerequisite: None

Organizations want to empower users to explore and analyze data so they can apply insights to all kinds of decisions. Many also want to be customer-centric; they want to enable their users to draw on a widening array of customer data sources to gain complete views of customer preferences, influences, and patterns. Yet, goals for self-service empowerment and customer-centricity often run headlong into concerns about data governance and compliance. Finding the right balance is difficult.

This presentation will draw on TDWI research to examine how organizations can achieve a good balance between empowering users and making sure that data governance and compliance priorities are met. We will talk about the role of data governance in improving overall trust in the data, which is vital to self-service empowerment. As data platform choices expand, data governance must fit into an ongoing, holistic view of data management, virtual data fabrics, and modern BI/analytics project development.

Fortunately, technology trends are enabling organizations to address pressures on governance and compliance. This presentation will discuss how these trends impact organizations’ strategies.

Topics to be covered include:

  • How data literacy training can improve data governance
  • The role of data lineage, data catalogs, and metadata management in data governance
  • How data governance fits into emerging holistic, multicloud data fabrics
  • Trends in data privacy regulations and compliance issues
