Case Study: Using Data and the Cloud to Save Them All (With Audience Q&A)

Best Friends Animal Society

This session will include a moderated Q&A featuring questions from the live audience.

The mission of Best Friends Animal Society is to bring about a time when there are no more homeless pets and our immediate goal is to end the killing of cats and dogs in U.S. shelters by 2025. In order to measure progress towards our goal (and to be able to celebrate when we achieve that goal), we have to be able to measure the problem and to measure the problem we need data.

As recently as 2016, there was no complete and accurate master shelter list for the country and there certainly was no accurate data detailing how many animals were being sheltered and killed. We have since created a one-of-a-kind master shelter list for the country and we are collecting data from the majority of the shelters on that list.

In addition to driving our life-saving strategy, we have published a dashboard to the public that allows them to drill into the data for their own community, or any community around the country, and get involved with saving lives. To make this a reality, we couldn’t rely on our legacy on-premises platforms and infrastructure, and so, our journey to the cloud began.
