The Modern Cloud Data Platform Journey: TDWI Insights into Opportunities and Challenges

April 12, 2023

Prerequisite: None

David Stodder

Senior Research Director

TDWI

Cloud migration continues to be a dominant trend as organizations digitally transform legacy applications using cloud services, shift data warehouses and data lakes to the cloud to accommodate user and workload expansion, and develop new analytics-driven applications. Speed, agility, scalability, IT cost reduction, and closer alignment with business requirements are major goals of migration. However, cloud migration is a journey; organizations want to get there faster and with less difficulty, but new challenges crop up along the way. Some enterprises find that they must rethink initial assumptions to achieve objectives.

In this presentation, David Stodder will discuss current TDWI research into how opportunities and challenges are evolving for cloud migration and the establishment of modern cloud data platforms.

Topics include:

  • Aligning cloud migration and platform strategies with data-driven business requirements
  • Addressing data silo problems and hybrid multicloud through consolidation and/or distributed data integration and management
  • The importance of Ops frameworks for scalability, data quality, and data governance
  • Best practices and technology trends for managing costs and accelerating business value
